It’s the rarest of birds, and Patrick Reed put himself in the record books by securing one during the opening round of the 2025 U.S. Open at famed Oakmont.

On the 621-yard, par-5 fourth hole, the 4Aces GC star hit a perfect 322-yard drive. Reed then hit his second shot from 286 yards and watched the ball hit the front of the green before it rolled slowly toward the hole. It dropped in for an albatross and the crowd roared. But the 2018 Masters champion wasn’t quite sure it had hit the bottom of the cup. It was confirmed a few moments later, and Reed couldn’t help but let out a big smile.

It was the fourth albatross in U.S. Open history. T.C. Chen (Oakland Hills, 1985), Shaun Micheel (Pebble Beach, 2010) and Nick Watney (Olympic Club, 2012) had the others.
