FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – As the Ryder Cup returns to U.S. soil at Bethpage Black, Scottie Scheffler has made it clear just how valuable he believes Bryson DeChambeau will be for Team USA.
“I think Bryson is a tremendous competitor,” Scheffler said Tuesday. “He's a great partner as well. I partnered with him in 2021 at Whistling Straits and he was a tremendous guy to be out on the golf course with. He's a great guy and a good friend and he's been great in our team room.”
The world No. 1 knows firsthand what the Crushers GC captain can bring to the table. The two share Texas roots; Scheffler grew up in Dallas and starred at the University of Texas while DeChambeau played his college golf at Southern Methodist University, where he won the NCAA Championship and U.S. Amateur in 2015.

Their connection carried into the 2021 Ryder Cup, when they teamed up at Whistling Straits as part of Team USA's thumping of the Europeans, 19-9. The pairing halved their fourball match against Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood before taking down Paul Casey and Fleetwood, 3 &,1. Both Scheffler and DeChambeau finished the week unbeaten at 2-0-1, with Scheffler beating Jon Rahm 4 & 3 in his singles match and DeChambeau taking down Sergio Garcia 3 & 2 in his.
Not only did Scheffler acknowledge the energy and experience DeChambeau brings to the team, he also praised his patriotism.
“The people love him, and I think he loves the opportunity to be able to represent his country," Scheffler said. "He's a multiple-time U.S. Open winner, and that means a lot to him. Being an American, I think, means a lot to him as well. I'm excited to kind of unleash him this week.”
For U.S. captain Keegan Bradley, DeChambeau’s role at Bethpage Black could prove to be the X-factor in Team USA's quest to avenge their loss in Rome in 2023, a Ryder Cup where DeChambeau was not chosen to partake in.
