LIV Golf 2026 Season Player Preview: Sergio Garcia

Nov 14, 2025 - 11:51 AMWritten by: Matt Vincenzi

The 2026 LIV Golf season starts next February under the lights in Riyadh, and in the next few months, we’ll take a detailed look at each player competing next season. Next up is a player who continues to add to his legendary status in the game, Sergio Garcia.

LOOKING AHEAD

Garcia, captain of Fireballs GC, will be entering his age 46 season in 2026 but is yet to show any signs of a precipitous dropoff with his play over the course of a full season. However, his results over the second half of the season didn’t quite match his excellent finishes to start the year and will be something to monitor entering next season. With his teammates David Puig and Josele Ballester on the rise, Garcia should continue in his role as a leader for the team while potentially getting more production from his teammates. Garcia will have his eyes set on earning another major championship as he enters the twilight of his career but is currently only exempted into The Masters.

LOOKING BACK

Garcia delivered another strong season, securing a top-10 finish in the individual standings for the third time in his four seasons on LIV Golf. Garcia’s leadership and consistency was evident as he led an extremely young Fireballs GC team to a third-place finish in the season-long standings. He got off to a blistering start with a victory in Hong Kong, making him one of only three players (Joaquin Niemann and Dean Burmester) to win LIV Golf events in back-to-back seasons. He finished in the top 10 of his first five events, before cooling off in the middle of the season. Though he fell short of his goals in the major championships and in the lack of Ryder Cup berth, Garcia remained Fireballs GC’s unwavering heartbeat and stabilizing force.

WHAT THE STATS SAY

Strengths: Garcia remains one of the most consistent drivers in the league, ranking 9th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee for the season. While he finished in the middle of the pack in terms of driving distance, he hit 66% of his fairways, which was top 10 in the league.

Garcia’s best range on approach shots came from 150-225 yards, where he ranked 14th in the league, gaining 0.15 strokes per round on average.

Weaknesses: By Garcia’s lofty standards, he struggled in 2025 with his iron play. Overall, he ranked 29th in Strokes Gained: Approach, losing 0.04 strokes per round on average. His difficulties were highlighted by subpar wedge play, where he ranked 32nd in short approach shots 150 yards and in.

Garcia has never been one of the league’s best putters, but 2025 was another season where Garcia couldn’t find consistency. He ranked 31st (-0.06) in the league in putting and changed flat sticks often over the course of the year.

BOTTOM LINE

Garcia certainly has the capability to continue to compete with the top 10 players in the league when he’s in form. His iron play isn’t quite as consistent as it once was but is still among the game's elite when he has it going on any given week. With a handful of LIV Golf events that really suit Garcia’s skill set (Hong Kong, Singapore, Andalucia), he should have a chance to earn a LIV Golf win for the third consecutive season.
