Youngest-ever U.S. Amateur winner to captain newly-rebranded Korean Golf Club for the 2026 season
NEW YORK - LIV Golf, the global golf league blending world-class competition with entertainment and culture to grow the game worldwide, today announced that South Korean star Byeong Hun An, one of Korea’s most accomplished modern golfers, will join Korean Golf Club as the team’s captain for the 2026 season. An headlines a fully-Korean roster that includes Younghan Song, Minkyu Kim and Danny Lee.
The 34-year-old An holds the title as the youngest winner of the U.S. Amateur Championship, having claimed the title in 2009 at age 17. He turned pro in 2011, and went on to earn his first professional win on the Challenge Tour in 2014. An made history in 2015, when he became the first Asian winner of the BMW PGA Championship, after earning the lowest-winning score in the tournament’s history, and was also named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year that year. An will serve as captain of Korean Golf Club, which recently unveiled a rebrand that reflects Korea’s growing influence on global golf culture and a reimagined vision for what modern golf can be.
“Joining LIV Golf is a defining move for my future,” An said. “LIV Golf is becoming a leading force in the game and a truly global golf league with a clear vision for the future; I see a great opportunity to grow my career as captain of Korean Golf Club: To compete at the highest level, embrace a dynamic team environment, and help shape this new era of the sport.”
In 2022, An won the title at the LECOM Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour. In 2024, won the Genesis Championship, besting fellow countryman Tom Kim in a first-hole playoff. The victory capped off a strong year that saw a runner-up finish at the Sony Open, a third-place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship, and his best FedExCup ranking to-date. An has represented his country on numerous occasions, competing for the International Team at the Presidents Cup in 2019 and 2024, and representing Korea at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“The arrival of Ben underscores our long-term commitment to - and deep belief in - the Korean market and the important role it plays in shaping the future of global golf," said CEO of LIV Golf Scott O'Neil. "Ben represents a generation of elite athletes who value expanding the game’s reach, competing at the highest level on an international stage, and carrying the responsibility of representing their country with pride. That perspective aligns powerfully with our belief that golf’s next era will be defined by diversity, ambition, and a rising standard of elite global competition. Korea has established itself as one of the sport’s most passionate markets, capable of producing a pipeline of world-class talent, Ben personifies the pride, discipline, and competitive excellence that have shaped that reputation.”
Song made his LIV Golf debut in April 2025, and returns to KGC’s roster with proven international credentials, highlighted by two professional victories on overseas tours, including the Japan Golf Tour. Since turning professional, Song has earned a reputation for steady game management and composure under pressure. He is set to form a strong core alongside An, with the two longtime friends and peers sharing both competitive experience and chemistry as they enter the next chapter together.
Kim became the youngest winner in European Tour group history in 2018 at the age of 17. He made his debut with LIV Golf during the 2025 season as an injury replacement for the RangeGoats. He joins An, Song and Danny Lee, who returns for his fourth season with LIV Golf under the newly-rebranded Korean Golf Club. After debuting at the 2023 LIV Golf season opener in Mayakoba, Lee became a LIV Golf winner in just his second tournament after a thrilling four-way playoff at LIV Golf Tucson.
“This is a landmark moment for Korean Golf Club,” said KGC General Manager Martin Kim. “Ben An is one of the most accomplished golfers of his generation, and his leadership as captain sets the standard for everything we want this team to represent. Alongside Younghan Song, Minkyu Kim, and Danny Lee, we’ve assembled a roster that reflects the depth, discipline, and global ambition of Korean golf as we enter the next chapter for this team.”
LIV Golf has established a meaningful connection with the Korean market, highlighted by the League’s inaugural LIV Golf Korea presented by Coupang Play, held in May 2025 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon. The three-day event featured a world-class field of elite players, with presenting partner Coupang Play amplifying the event’s momentum across Asia as the exclusive broadcast partner in South Korea. Beyond the competition, LIV Golf Korea delivered a festival-style experience anchored by a headline performance from K-pop icon G-Dragon, alongside appearances by IVE, Dynamic Duo, Gummy, and KiiKii - seamlessly uniting sport, music, and culture in one of the League’s most dynamic events to date.
