SINGAPORE - RangeGoats GC star Peter Uihlein opened with a composed 3-under 68 at the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times, overcoming fatigue after a demanding transcontinental journey from LIV Golf Mexico City that left him “dragging his feet” down the closing stretch, while still positioning himself for a chance at qualification for The 154th Open.

The American arrived in Singapore just after midnight on Wednesday, giving himself minimal recovery time before teeing it up at Sentosa Golf Club — where challenging conditions and physical exertion combined to test even the most seasoned campaigners.

“I’m exhausted, to be honest. We got in at midnight on Wednesday, so I’m pretty tired, but this week still offers a chance to qualify for The Open, so I don’t want to let that slip,” Uihlein said. “The back nine felt long today — I was definitely dragging my feet a bit. The weather was pretty demanding too, but at least we got through it without any delays, which was nice.”

Despite the physical toll, the two-time International Series champion showed his class once again, navigating the conditions to stay firmly in contention, sitting at T13 after day one.

Uihlein is no stranger to success on The International Series, having captured titles at both International Series England and International Series Qatar in 2024, while also recording runner-up finishes at the 2024 International Series Thailand and the 2025 Link Hong Kong Open — further cementing his status as one of LIV Golf’s most accomplished performers across the global circuit.

The 35-year-old was disappointed to have missed the Series opener in Japan, with Singapore marking his first start of the 2026 campaign.

“It’s nice to be back,” he said. “I was actually quite sad to miss Japan this year. I was supposed to go but had some scheduling changes and ended up staying in Florida instead.”

“Still, we were just here recently with LIV, so it feels familiar. I didn’t need too much of a practice round. The greens are a bit slower than when we played here before, so there were a few putts to adjust to, but overall it’s good to be back.”

While results in the LIV Golf League this season have included several near-misses, Uihlein remains confident that his game is trending in the right direction as he continues to search for a breakthrough week.

“I haven’t been playing my best since the start of the season — top threes are nice, but a win is definitely what I’m working towards,” he admitted. “I tried a few new things in Mexico that felt good and carried over a bit into today. I’ll just keep working, keep tinkering, and see what sticks.”
