WHAT MAKES LIV GOLF TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN MIAMI SO UNIQUE?
Twelve teams. Three days. One huge prize. Welcome to LIV Golf Invitational Miami’s Team Championship!
The end of the inaugural 2022 season ends with a bang – and the biggest prize in golf. And it takes place at the iconic Blue Monster course at Trump National Golf Club Doral.
Here are seven reasons why this week’s LIV Golf finale is so unique.
ALL ABOUT THE TEAM
During LIV Golf’s seven regular-season events, there were two trophies on the line – the individual title and the team title. But in Miami, only one thing matters. All 48 players are playing for their teams, and the stakes are the highest ever seen at a golf event – a $50 million purse, with the winning team splitting the $16 million top prize.
CHOOSING YOUR OPPONENT
Along with the record purse, one of the unique aspects will be that higher-seeded teams get to select their opponents in Friday’s quarterfinals and Saturday’s semifinals match play format. Earlier this week, the captains of teams seeded 5th through 12th made their selections and lineups. The same process is set for Saturday's matches, starting with top-seeded 4 Aces GC and its captain, Dustin Johnson.
CAPTAIN VS. CAPTAIN
Another interesting twist for the first two days is that all captains must face each other in one of the singles matches. That means fans are guaranteed to see the biggest names going head-to-head. Meanwhile, each captain must also select which of his teammates will play the other singles match, and which duo will play the foursomes match. Lots of big decisions await for the heads of the 12 teams.
SELFIES AND SIGNINGS
Why not remember your day by capturing a selfie or get an autograph with some of our world-class players at Trump National Doral? Each day, select members of various teams will be present at the putting green found between the 1st tee and the 18th green.
"Golf, But Louder" is our motto. In Miami, we're reaching maximum levels with two post-round concerts at Doral – Nelly on Saturday, and The Chainsmokers on Sunday. Plus, pre-round entertainment at the Fan Village will include DJ Tay James each day.
MATCH PLAY INTRIGUE
Other team competitions may have foursomes in one session, and singles in another. At LIV Golf, both formats will be used at the same time for the first two days in Miami. Each team vs. team match in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals will consist of two singles and one foursomes match. All matches must produce a winner (no ties), and the team that wins at least two of the matches will advance.
EVERY SCORE COUNTS ON SUNDAY
For the final day involving the four surviving teams, the competition will revert to stroke play. The twist here is that every player’s score counts for his team. That’s different than during the regular season, when three scores counted in the final round. With no place to hide, each team member must bring his “A” game on Sunday to give his team a shot at the giant prize.
