Victor Perez made the 13th hole-in-one in league hisory – and the first this season – during the first round of HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong. The Frenchman found the bottom of the cup with his tee shot on hole No. 2, a 149-yard par 3.
“I was trying to hit just a stock gap wedge, and it ended up going a little more right,” said Perez, playing in just his third LIV Golf tournament since joining the league in the offseason. “The ball was in the air, and I was playing with Harold (Varner III), and Harold goes like, go in. Then it was in. It happened so quickly. The ball didn't roll, either. It kind of was just like, ba-bap, and it was in. It was like, yeah, great bonus.”
Perez said he was “pretty sure” that Thursday’s hole-in-one was his fourth in competition.
Cleeks Golf Club completed the tournament in 10th (-34). Here are the team members' individual results:
Richard Bland: T14 (-13)
Victor Perez: T16 (-12)
Adrian Meronk: T45 (-7)
Captain Martin Kaymer: T52 (-2)
Kaymer returned to action after missing the Adelaide event due to a minor elbow injury.
In the season-long individual standings, Bland is 34th with 27.60 points, Perez is 38th (24.75 points), Meronk is 43rd (20.13 points), and Kaymer is 58th (4.70 points).
