DeChambeau to debut new irons at LIV Golf Virginia

GAINESVILLE, Va. – Just a week ahead of his U.S. Open title defense, Bryson DeChambeau is putting new irons in play at LIV Golf Virginia presented by Maaden.
The Crushers GC captain will debut his new set of custom irons, LA Golf BAD V3-W (5-9).
Since the 2024 Masters, the 31-year-old has been using 3D printed Avoda Golf Bryson DeChambeau Prototype irons, but he’s hinted at changes with his irons.
Earlier this year at the Asian Tour’s International Series India, he tested the LA Golf irons. He also mentioned on a Golf Digest podcast that the new clubs are being designed by him and Jeff Meyer, the LA Golf Chief Design Officer.
“We were hands on, went through the whole process, testing, researching,” DeChambeau said. “You’re going to see something special that no other OEM is doing.”
DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open winner, has come close to adding to his major total this season. He finished a career-best T5 at the Masters in April, and was runner-up at the PGA Championship for the second consecutive year, finishing T2.
Both times, his iron play was inconsistent. At the Masters, he ranked 1st in the field in strokes gained around the green, 2nd in the field in strokes gained off the tee and 20th in the field in strokes gained putting. However, he ranked 51st in the field in approach, averaging –0.89 strokes per round.
“Just more of the same with my irons. Was trying to figure it out from last Sunday (at LIV Golf Miami)”, he said after shooting a final-round 75 at Augusta National. “For some reason I’m just not fully optimized. I get over it and I feel like I’m going to hit the heel, and I try to pull across it and it just goes left on me. If I just had somewhat of good iron play this week, it would have been a lot different outcome.”
The theme continued at the PGA Championship, where DeChambeau was once again in contention. He ranked 4th in the field in strokes gained off the tee but only 47th in strokes gained approach.
DeChambeau enters this week’s event at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club having won the previous LIV Golf tournament in Korea, moving into second in the season-long Individual Championship standings.
