DJ among 13 LIV Golf players hoping to qualify for The Open
4AcesGC Captain Dustin Johnson is one of just 22 golfers to make the cut at the Masters, PGA Championship and U.S. Open this season.

Thirteen LIV Golf players are scheduled to compete Tuesday in final qualifying for next month’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Included in that group is Dustin Johnson, who is seeking to extend his exempt streak to 71 consecutive majors.
The 4Aces GC captain has made the cut in each of the previous three majors in 2026, one of just 22 worldwide golfers to achieve that feat this year. He has been exempt into every major since the 2009 Masters, with two wins and five runner-up finishes.
Johnson will compete in the qualifier held at Dundonald Links in Scotland. Torque GC’s Carlos Ortiz is also in that field.
Six LIV Golf players will compete at the Royal Cinque Ports qualifier – Dean Burmester and Branden Grace of Southern Guards GC; David Puig and Luis Masaveu of Fireballs GC; RangeGoats Golf Club’s Peter Uihlein: and Johnson’s 4Aces teammate Thomas Detry. Uihlein took medalist honors earlier this year at a U.S. Open qualifier for his first major start since 2018, making the cut last week at Shinnecock Hills. Burmester was the medalist last year at Royal Cinque Ports.
Legion XIII’s Caleb Surratt also qualified for the U.S. Open, making the cut in his first major start. He’ll join Crushers GC’s Anirban Lahiri and Ripper GC’s Marc Leishman in the field at the Burnham & Berrow qualifier.
Fireballs GC Captain Sergio Garcia, who has made 103 major starts in his career, is in the qualifier at West Lancashire along with Wild Card player Miguel Tabuena.
A year ago, Garcia played in The Open after earning the LIV Golf exemption that goes to the top player not otherwise exempt based on the league’s individual standings. This year, that exemption went to Torque Captain Joaquin Niemann, who is among the 12 full-time LIV Golf players already exempt for The Open, which will be held July 16-19 at Royal Birkdale.
In addition to Niemann, the other LIV Golf players already exempt are Jon Rahm (Legion XIII), Bryson DeChambeau (Crushers), Tyrrell Hatton (Legion XIII), Scott Vincent (HyFlyers GC), Cameron Smith (Ripper), Lucas Herbert (Ripper), Tom McKibbin (Legion XIII), Louis Oosthuizen (Southern Guards), Laurie Canter (Majesticks GC), Elvis Smylie (Ripper) and Phil Mickelson (HyFlyers).
After The Open, LIV Golf will resume its 2026 schedule the following week at LIV Golf United Kingdom presented by JCB at JCB Golf & Country Club on July 23-26. For more details on that tournament, click here.
