ABOUT THE COURSE
ROBERT TRENT JONES GOLF CLUB
Gainesville, Virginia
Par 71
Yardage 7,354
Meters 6,726
- Famed golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the championshjip course that was officially opened in April 1991.
- Jones, who built and remodeled more than 450 courses throughout the world, considered the course his “masterpiece.” Said Jones: “The terraine is aesthetically perfect. I don’t think we could have done anything better anywhere.”
- The course hosted the 2024 Solheim Cup as well as the first four Presidents Cups held in the United States (1994, 1996, 2000, 2005) and a PGA Tour event
- Lake Manassas provides soothing views on the property, especially on the back nine, but realistically comes into play at the par-3 11th, in which players must hit across the lake
- Greens in Regulation will be a key metric this week as scoring differences between hitting greens and missing them is wider and more penal than the league average.
- The putting green at the 476-yard par-4 18th is on the shore of Lake Manassas, and players will need to avoid going left with their approach shots
- The shortest par 4 on the course is the 323-yard 10th, with two tiers on the putting green
- HyFlyers GC Captain Phil Mickelson is the only player in the field who competed at the Presidents Cups held at RTJ; in fact, he represented the U.S. in all four events held there, winning nine and tying three of his of 17 matches
