GAINESVILLE, Va. — LIV Golf Virginia presented by Maaden proved to be a fantastic event. The tournament showcased an exquisite balance of in-their-prime superstars and iconic major champions competing for the individual championship at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

In the end, Joaquin Niemann outshone the competitive field to triumph once again. The Chilean delivered a stellar 8-under 63, capturing his sixth LIV Golf victory, a record unmatched by any other LIV Golf player. Niemann has now won four of the eight LIV Golf events in 2025.

Here is a last look at some of the notable performances from LIV Golf Virginia:

Round of the Week

Ben Campbell broke a LIV Golf record of consecutive birdies in a single round by making seven in a row on Sunday en route to shooting a 9-under 62. The Kiwi began his birdie streak on the 13th hole, and it didn’t end until he made a par on the 2nd. He made 145 feet of putts during the hot stretch.

After the streak ended, Campbell went on to make four more birdies along with two bogeys; his 11 birdies ties for second most by any player in a LIV Golf round.

Campbell is in his first season on LIV and fighting to guarantee his spot for next season but had suffered a wrist injury that cost him a chance to earn points in the previous two events. He’s now 29th in the individual standings, just outside the top 24 Lock Zone that guarantees a spot for next season.

Under the Radar Performers

Jinichiro Kozuma: Kozuma continued to show his importance to Iron Heads GC in his third start back from injury. The 30-year-old from Japan shot a final-round 64 to finish T23. He’s finished with points-producing top-24 results in all three of his LIV Golf starts this season.

Lee Westwood: The Majesticks GC tri-captain had his best result of the season, finishing T10. It’s been a difficult year for both Westwood and the Majesticks in 2025, but his result in Virginia moved him up 11 spots in the season-long points race and out of the Drop Zone. All four Majesticks starters are now in the Open Zone with five regular-season tournaments left.

Brendan Steele: Steele admittedly has been struggling mightily thus far in 2025. Typically a consistent player, the 42-year-old had not finished in the top 20 in any event entering the week. That changed with a T15 finish in Virginia, thanks to a 7-under 64 in the final round.

Phil Mickelson has shown flashes of brilliance and Cameron Tringale has been incredibly consistent. The HyFlyers will need this version of Steele to climb the team standings in the second half of the season.

Clutch Performance

Niemann found himself in a six-way tie for first when he stepped on the 14th tee. The 26-year-old made a birdie there followed by three more birdies on holes 15, 16 and 17 to take a stranglehold on the tournament.

Statistical Standouts

Bryson DeChambeau: +4.20 strokes around the green, which led the field. Bryson DeChambeau generates headlines with his incredible power off the tee, but his short game is extremely underrated. This week, the Crushers GC captain will need to make difficult up-and-downs if he wants to successfully defend his U.S. Open title. He should be extremely confident with that part of his game.

Joaquin Niemann: +9.33 strokes on approach, which led the field. Niemann is clearly dialed in with his approach play. Fresh off a major career-best T8 finish at the PGA Championship, the Chilean is radiating confidence and precision with his irons.

Phil Mickelson: Led the field in par-4 scoring (3.67). Mickelson found himself in contention against some of the best players in the world at 54 years old (he turns 55 next Monday). Earlier this week, the six-time major winner said he’d step away from the HyFlyers GC if he was hurting the team. The evidence thus far shows he’s the team’s best player.

Veteran Resurgence

An absolutely loaded category this week, with multiple veterans showcasing their ability to compete with some of the best players in the world on a difficult golf course.

Although there were plenty of players to choose from, Mickelson and Bubba Watson will be the two that share the spotlight after LIV Golf Virginia. Mickelson (67-68-65) and Watson (68-65-67) both finished T4 at –13 for the week. The HyFlyers GC Captain pulled off an incredible shot on 17, chipping in for birdie. “Vintage Phil” is how DeChambeau described it.

Watson was equally impressive. The 46-year-old showed off his impressive ability to shape the ball around the golf course and play strategically to vault himself into contention. Like Mickelson, it was a vintage performance from the RangeGoats GC captain that deserves recognition.

Young Gun Spotlight

Unlike the veteran category, there weren’t many young up-and-comers in the mix at Robert Trent Jones Club. However, given the unique circumstances of his spot in the Fireballs GC lineup, recognition belongs to reserve Luis Masaveu.

Masaveu was replaced on Fireballs GC by 2024 U.S. amateur champion Josele Ballester. Due to an injury to David Puig, Masaveu played for the Fireballs in Virginia this week, and was the second lowest scorer for the team.

Masaveu, 22, shot rounds of 71, 68 and 71 to finish in a tie for 33rd.

Who’s Trending?

Talor Gooch: The three-time LIV Golf individual winner did not look himself last year or in early 2025. However, over the last few starts he has regained some form. This week, Talor Gooch finished T10 at 9 under, and he’s now shot 10 consecutive rounds under par.

Thomas Pieters: The Belgian has been a strong off-season acquisition for the 4Aces but hadn’t yet gotten into serious contention until this week. Pieters fired a final-round 63 to finish at –13, which was the clubhouse lead until Niemann’s late flurry of birdies. The strong performance marks the former Ryder Cupper’s second straight finish T4 finish on LIV Golf.

Quotes of the Week

DeChambeau on his new irons heading into the U.S. Open:

“They felt pretty good. I think there's more optimization at play, potential optimization at play, but it's a good start. I drove it really poorly for my own standards this week, so I'm going to go work on that. I feel like the driver might have kind of given away this week. I've used it for over three months now and it's time to put a freshy in. It's something I'm going to work on for next week and get ready.”

Niemann on his expectations for the U.S. Open:

“I feel like it's just another golf tournament. I've got to figure out stuff in my game and got to improve my driving. I feel like next week is going to be a good challenge. I feel like this is going to be a good preparation for what's coming. I actually haven't been to Oakmont before. It's going to be my first time. I've got to go there on Monday, see what it is, and then see what I expect. More than that, I don't have many more expectations”

Graeme McDowell on Joaquin Niemann:

“He's just so good. He's so good. He's an absolute top 10 player in the world. You could argue top 5. Phenomenal, phenomenal player. Obviously can't wait to see him go and play great next week at Oakmont.”

Noteworthy

  • Richard Bland, the second oldest player on LIV Golf, produced the final-round’s longest drive (on a measured hole). The 52-year-old launched one 351 yards on the 14th hole.
  • Branden Grace had his best finish of the season (T19) but is currently still inside the Drop Zone (50th).
  • Niemann has now won 6 of the last 21 LIV Golf tournaments (29% success rate) and 4 of the last 8 (50%).
