Rd. 4 recap: Herbert finishes with record 30 under for wire-to-wire win while Rippers sweep LIV Golf UK Presented by JCB

ROCESTER, England – Lucas Herbert started the week setting records – and he ended it the same way. When his final birdie putt dropped Sunday at LIV Golf United Kingdom Presented by JCB, the Ripper GC star completed the most dominant four-day performance in LIV Golf history.

Herbert produced his second wire-to-wire victory of the season by shooting a bogey-free 10-under 62 to finish at 30 under – a record-low in any LIV Golf tournament, bettering the 26-under scores shot by Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm earlier this season in South Africa, which DeChambeau won in a playoff.

Along the way, Herbert set records for most birdies (30) and most combination of birdies and eagles (32) in any single LIV Golf tournament. His opening 11-under 61 set the tone for his week, as he established new tournament and course records at JCB Golf & Country Club. His final round Sunday was just an impressive, given the trickier wind conditions and pressure of maintaining the lead against his two closest pursuers, DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton.

“It was nice to be me this week,” Herbert said.

Herbert’s six-shot victory ties for the second-largest win in league history, bettered only by his Ripper captain Cameron Smith’s seven-shot win at Bedminster in 2023 when the league played 54-hole tournaments. When Herbert shot 24 under for his wire-to-wire win at LIV Golf Virginia in May, he won by four strokes.

“Incredible,” Smith said. “To beat the field that we’ve got by six shots, have a 61 and a 62 in the same week with the conditions we were playing in, is pretty crazy.”

That was nothing any of his competitors could do this week. Hatton, seeking his second consecutive LIV Golf win and playing in his home country, finished solo second at 24 under. He shot a bogey-free 9-under 63 to apply as much heat as possible on Herbert but still managed to lose a stroke to the 30-year-old Australian.

“It’s crazy,” said Hatton, who was 6 under on his opening nine holes Sunday. “I’m really happy with how I played today. I needed to get off to a fast start, which I was able to do. Unfortunately for myself, Lucas played incredible golf. He’s been unbelievable all week. He’s a good frontrunner and he proved that today by making it impossible for everyone trying to chase him down.”

DeChambeau shot 68 to finish solo third at 21 under as the Crushers GC captain played the final three rounds in the same group as Herbert. Not since DeChambeau’s epic 2023 victory at Greenbrier, when he shot 61-58 on the weekend to finish the three-round tournament at 23 under, has such a record-setting performance been delivered on a LIV Golf stage.

“It felt like he was just invincible,” DeChambeau said. “Every time we thought we had a chance, he just made a putt or hit a shot in there close. That’s some stellar golf.”

Herbert said having Hatton apply the early pressure and DeChambeau staying close forced him to remain aggressive instead of sitting on the lead.

Herbert made the turn at 5 under but perhaps the biggest moment of his round came at the par-4 8th when he saved par with an 18-foot putt. He then put the tournament away with a stretch of four consecutive birdies from holes 11-14.

“Tyrrell was throwing down the hammer at me there,” he said. “… I knew both him and Bryson would come pretty hard at me. I just didn’t want to take a backwards step and give them any freebies. It took a lot more birdies than I thought.”

Smith finished fourth while his Rippers claimed the team title by four shots over the Crushers. It’s the third win of the season for the Australian quartet, which join 4Aces GC as three-time team winners in 2026. But more than either of those previous two wins, the Rippers own their success this week to Herbert, who contributed 58% to the team’s winning 52-under score.

“When Herby gets on a roll like he did this week, it’s awesome to watch,” said Smith. “I almost wish I was on the lounge having a beer watching it, to be honest.”

ROUND 4 NOTES

HERBERT’S RANKING: Prior to winning the International Series Japan in May of 2025, Lucas Herbert was ranked 324th in the world. He then moved to 167th with that victory.

Starting this year, LIV Golf began receiving world ranking points. When Herbert won in Virginia in May, he moved from 173rd to 89th. Then after producing his best major result of his career with a T6 at last week’s Open Championship - when he tied a men’s major record by shooting 62 - he moved to 69th. He’ll now move up even higher after Sunday’s win.

Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith said however far Herbert moves up, it won’t be enough to truly reflect his teammate’s form at the moment.

“After the last couple of weeks, it’s hard to say he’s not inside the top 5, 10 in the world,” Smith said. “He’s just so confident at the moment. Like nothing scares him. You can see when someone is in that zone – and he’s in that zone.”

DECHAMBEAU CUTS INTO RAHM’S LEAD: With a solo third this week, Crushers GC Captain Bryson DeChambeau managed to reduce Jon Rahm’s points lead in the season-long Individual Championship standings as the race heads into the last month of the season.

DeChambeau gained 75 points for finishing third while Rahm claimed 9.86 points with his tie for 23rd after shooting rounds of 73-70-71-70. It’s the first time the Legion XIII captain has finished outside the top 20 in any LIV Golf tournament that he’s completed.

Rahm, the reigning two-time Individual champion, will go into next month’s LIV Golf New York with 938.44 points, putting him 219.04 points ahead of DeChambeau, who has 719.40 points.

Lucas Herbert moved into third place in points (531.23) with his win Sunday but has no mathematical chance to catch Rahm.

HATTON’S 1-2 PUNCH: Legion XIII star Tyrrell Hatton followed his LIV Golf Andalucia title with a runner-up in front of his home fans in England. He’s in solid form entering the final stretch of the season.

“Happy with my last two performances on LIV,” said Hatton, who signed autographs and took selfies with fans for more than a half-hour after his round Sunday. “This week playing in front of home fans, it would’ve been really special to win, but it wasn’t to be. Attention turns to the next LIV event, and hopefully I can keep playing well.”

SMYTH’S TEAM WINS: Reserve player Travis Smyth of Australia became the first LIV Golf player to celebrate wins with two different teams in the same season. Smyth filled in for injured Elvis Smylie this week for the winning Ripper GC team. Two months ago at LIV Golf Korea, Smyth replaced injured Paul Casey in the Crushers GC lineup and was a key contributor to their win.

Smyth becomes the fourth different player in league history to celebrate wins with different teams, joining Talor Gooch, Peter Uihlein and David Puig.

Asked to compare the two wins, Smyth replied: “A win is a win. I’ll take any of them. I don’t want to say which one is better, but politely speaking, this one is better. I’m with Australians here and this is where my heart is.”

GOOD WEEK FOR MAJESTICKS: Fueled by their supportive home crowd, the all-English Majesticks Golf Club produced their best team finish of the season, shooting a collective 22 under for fifth place. The Majesticks’ previous best had been a sixth in Mexico City.

Laurie Canter was the club’s top performer, finishing tied for seventh. It’s just the second individual top-10 finish of the season for any Majesticks player (co-captain Lee Westwood finished third in Singapore). Co-captain Ian Poulter tied for 15th, his best result of the season and his third top-20 finish in his last four league starts.

WIRE-TO-WIRES: Four of the last six LIV Golf tournaments have produced wire-to-wire winners – Bryson DeChambeau in South Africa (via playoff over Jon Rahm); Lucas Herbert in Virginia; Tyrrell Hatton in Andalucia; and now Herbert again in the United Kingdom.
