Here’s a look at the LIV Golf players competing in Round 1, in order of when they finished their rounds (earliest to latest).
CARLOS ORTIZ, TORQUE GC
Score: 8-over 80
Tee times: Rd. 1, 7:50 a.m.; Rd. 2, 11:03 a.m.
Round 1: Carlos Ortiz got off to a difficult start in his second-ever Masters appearance. The Torque GC star opened with a bogey on the first hole, and it got worse from there. Ortiz made a bogey or worse on each of his first five holes, including double bogeys on the second and fifth holes.
After making the turn at 7 over, the Mexican settled down on the back nine. He shot 1 over on his final nine holes with two birdies and three bogeys. Ortiz finished with an 8-over 80 and will need a low round on Friday to make the cut.
CHARL SCHWARTZEL, SOUTHERN GUARDS GC
Score: 3-over 75
Tee times: Rd. 1, 8:26 a.m.; Rd. 2; 11:39 a.m.
Round 1: Charl Schwartzel opened his Masters bid with a bogey on the first hole and followed with four straight pars before notching his first birdie of the day on the par-3 sixth. The 2011 Masters champion then dropped back-to-back bogeys on the ninth and 10th holes. In the end, Schwartzel struggled to a 3-over 75 on a tough opening day at Augusta National.
“Yeah, course is tough. It's firm,” Schwartzel said. “There was a few tough pin placements. Didn't really feel like I played that badly. You know, didn't make enough key 12-footers. I had a few opportunities on 12-footers and missed.”
BUBBA WATSON, RANGEGOATS GC
Score: 4-over 76
Tee times: Rd. 1, 9:02 a.m.; Rd. 2; 12:18 p.m.
Round 1: Bubba Watson battled through a tough opening nine at Augusta National, turning in 5 over after a slow start that included four bogeys without a birdie. The two-time Masters champion settled in nicely on the back, playing it 1 under with cleaner ball-striking and a key birdie on the par-5 13th. He ultimately signed for a 4-over 76.
CAMERON SMITH, RIPPER GC
Score: 2-over 74
Tee times: Rd. 1, 9:19 a.m.; Rd. 2; 12:32 p.m.
Round 1: Cameron Smith’s opening round at the Masters was a bit of a roller coaster. He traded two birdies for two bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at even par, then added one more birdie and three bogeys on the back nine. Smith's terrific putting was on full display on firm and fast conditions throughout the round. In the end, the Australian carded a 2-over 74.
DUSTIN JOHNSON, 4ACES GC
Score: 1-over 73 Tee times: Rd. 1, 9:43 a.m.; Rd. 2; 12:56 p.m.
Round 1: Dustin Johnson delivered a fairly steady round at Augusta National, making a single birdie and two bogeys across 18 holes. The 2020 Masters champion leaned on his putting as he's done all year on LIV Golf, where he ranks 4th in the league. Johnson comfortably signed for a 1-over 73.
