Mito Pereira has announced his retirement from professional golf at the age of 30. The Chilean golfer shared the news on Monday via a post on Instagram, marking the end of a career that saw him compete at the highest levels of the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League.

“After a period of reflection, I have decided to bring my career as a professional golfer to an end," Pereira wrote in the post. "This was not a decision made overnight, but one I have been thoughtfully considering for some time, waiting for the right moment to communicate it. After many years connected to this beautiful sport, priorities naturally evolve. Today, my main desire is to step away from constant travel, return to Chile and focus on my personal life."

Following his announcement, Torque GC posted a tribute on X acknowledging Pereira's time with the team. Pereira was an early member of the all-Latin American squad, helping them secure four team victories during the 2023 LIV Golf season as well as a team triumph at LIV Golf Indianapolis last season.

Pereira first gained significant international attention in 2021 when he earned an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour by winning three times in a single season on the Korn Ferry Tour. He was the first player to achieve this feat since 2016. Later that year, he represented Chile at the Tokyo Olympics, where he finished in a tie for third and narrowly missed out on a bronze medal after a seven-man playoff.

“I carry with me unforgettable moments, the three Korn Ferry Tour titles that earned me a place on the PGA Tour, my time on the LIV Tour, where I discovered many destinations and truly enjoyed competing as part of an incredible team, Team Torque, and the honor of representing Chile at the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games," Pereira wrote. "Standing on the podium in Lima 2019 and narrowly missing an Olympic medal in Tokyo 2020 are moments that will remain forever in my memory and in my heart.”

His most notable individual performance came at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills. Pereira held a one-shot lead heading into the 72nd hole of the tournament and was on the verge of becoming the first Chilean to win a major championship. A double bogey on the final hole resulted in a T3 finish, one stroke out of the playoff eventually won by Justin Thomas.

After joining LIV Golf in early 2023, Pereira put together a strong first season where he boasted six top-10 finishes including a runner-up finish at Greenbrier and a 3rd place finish in DC.  He went on to finish 8th in the individual standings. However, he faced a more difficult 2025 season and finished in the Drop Zone, leading to his relegation from the league.

“It's pretty sad to kind of lose him on the team," Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann said before the LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship, after Pereira was relegated. "He's such a good influence for the team, and he brings such a good vibe to be all four together.”
