Niemann solo second after Rd. 1 at DP World Tour’s Italian Open
Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann, coming off a T7 at the U.S. Open, continued his top-notch play on Thursday in Italy with a 7-under 64.

Joaquin Niemann continued his scorching hot play in June at the DP World Tour’s Italian Open, once again getting in position to make a run at a trophy against a top international field.

The Torque GC captain shot a 7-under 64 in Round 1 to tie the course record at Circolo Golf Torino in Fiano, Itay. He stands in solo second place behind Edoardo Molinari, who later set the course record with an 8-under 63.
Last week, Niemann had his best major showing when he finished T7 at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, where he earned an exemption into the 2027 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach thanks to the top-10 finish.
A total of seven LIV Golf players are in the field this week in Italy. Those who finished at par or better in Round 1 were Niemann, Legion XIII’s Tom McKibbin (3-under 68, T22), Fireballs GC’s David Puig (3-under 68, T22), Ripper GC’s Elvis Smylie (2-under 69, T45), Fireballs GC’s Josele Ballester (even-par 71, T93), 4Aces GC’s Thomas Detry (even-par 71, T93). Southern Guards GC’s Branden Grace shot a 1-over 72 and is T113.
