SINGAPORE - American rising star Caleb Surratt of Legion XIII arrives at this week’s Singapore Open presented by The Business Times determined to turn a string of agonising near-misses into a long-awaited maiden professional victory, while building on momentum from a recent team success at LIV Golf Mexico and encouraging greater Legion XIII presence on The International Series.

The 22-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers on the Series in recent seasons, coming within touching distance of victory on multiple occasions.

He finished runner-up in back-to-back editions of the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers in 2024 and 2025, added another second-place finish at International Series England in 2024, and recorded a tied-third result at International Series Morocco the same year.

Those close calls have only strengthened his resolve and deepened his connection with the Series.

“I’m here to execute at the highest level I can,” said Surratt. “If I stay out of my own way and don’t worry about what others are doing, I know I’ll give myself a chance come Sunday. The goal is to contend, earn a place in The Open, and keep pushing towards that first win. I believe it’ll come — it’s just a matter of time.”

Surratt has also been a vocal advocate for greater participation from his Legion XIII teammates, highlighting both the competitive strength and global appeal of the Series.

“Yeah, for sure that would be nice,” he said. “Some of the guys haven’t played many yet, but I’ve spoken to Tom [McKibbin] about it, it fits well into his schedule. His win in Hong Kong was huge, and I think he saw how strong these events are.

“Personally, I’ve really enjoyed every event I’ve played. I haven’t been to one I wouldn’t go back to, and I’m looking forward to playing more, and hopefully bringing a few of the guys with me.”

Arriving in Singapore fresh off a team victory in Mexico, Surratt believes his game is trending in the right direction at a crucial point in the season.

“It definitely helps,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve played as well as I would’ve liked so far this year, but I feel like I’m trending in the right direction. I can see areas that held me back before starting to improve, so I’m excited to build on that — both with the team and individually.”

With a regular presence across events on The International Series, Surratt also credits it as a key component in his development as he continues to pursue opportunities at the highest level of the game.

“It’s great to mix in more traditional tournament golf, 72 holes, different formats, different pressures compared to LIV,” he said. “It’s really valuable preparation, especially as I work towards playing in more majors and becoming a more complete player.

“The more you play, the more you learn. If I can balance the LIV schedule with five or six events here, that sets up a really strong year for me.”

The International Series has launched an upgraded website and app, bringing users closer to the action with live leaderboards, player rankings, and full tournament coverage.
