Six LIV Golf stars made the weekend, and Saturday proved to be a tough test for all involved. Legion XIII’s Tyrrell Hatton and 4Aces GC Captain Dustin Johnson lead all LIV Golf players at 4 over through three days. They were T36 when the final groups teed off.
Johnson shot a stellar 1-over 71 on Saturday while Hatton carded a 2-over 72. Majesticks GC’s Laurie Canter was impressive as well in Round 3, shooting 1-over 71.
PLAYER NOTES FROM RD. 3
DUSTIN JOHNSON (1-over 71; 4-over total)
Johnson shot one of the better rounds of the morning, firing a 1-over 71 to get into the clubhouse at 4 over. The 4Aces GC captain's solid play continues, despite a difficult three-hole stretch in the middle of his back nine.
"I played really good," Johnson said. "Obviously, struggled there on 14, 15, 16, made three bogeys in a row. But other than that, I played really well."
Johnson pointed to the unforgiving nature of Shinnecock's margins as a factor, even on shots that looked solid.
"Sometimes on this golf course, if you're a yard off the fairway, it's worse than if you miss it big," he said. "But I mean, played really solid in these conditions. It was absolutely howling this morning, and it felt like I played really, really well."
TYRRELL HATTON (2-over 72; 4 over total)
Hatton carded a 2-over 72 in the third round to sit at 4 over for the tournament. The Legion XIII star has kept himself within range heading into the final round at Shinnecock Hills.
LAURIE CANTER (1 -over 71; 5-over total)
Canter carded a 1-over 71 in the third round to move to 5 over. The Englishman pointed to a familiar culprit for what has kept him from an even lower number.
"I played really, really solid today, tee to green. A lot of really good shots," said Canter, who plays for Majesticks Golf Club. "I've just made such a mess of 16 the last two days. I've chipped it in the bunker twice there. If I can get that one up and down, I've got a good chance of shooting another good round."
Canter also pointed to the wind and firming conditions as reasons for optimism heading into Sunday.
"If this wind keeps going and the course dries out a bit, it should move up a few spots and can have a run at a really great week tomorrow."

JOAQUIN NIEMANN (2-over 72; 5-over total)
Niemann backed up his incredible second-round 65 with a 2-over 72 on Saturday and sits at 5 over for the week. After one of the most dramatic 36-hole turnarounds of the championship, the Torque GC captain remains in the picture entering Sunday.
CALEB SURRATT (5-over 75; 9-over total)
Surratt shot a 5-over 75 in the third round, moving to 9 over for the week. The performance remains a milestone regardless, with the young Legion XIII star already having secured a made cut in his first career major start.
PETER UIHLEIN (10-over 80; 14-over total)
Uihlein carded a 10-over 80 in difficult conditions in the third round to fall to 14 over for the week. The RangeGoats Golf Club star will look to rebound in the final round.
