Phil Mickelson has always been a short-game magician, and he proved it once again in the final round of LIV Golf Virginia. While Joaquin Niemann eventually took the individual title, it was the 54-year-old HyFlyers GC captain that produced the shot of the day.

On the par-4 17th hole at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Mickelson, sitting at 12 under and just two shots off the lead, found his ball in a precarious spot: deep rough on a sloping bank, hole-high, with the pin to his right, and the six-time major champion pulled off a jaw-dropping flop shot that will go down as one of the most spectacular of his career.

Mickelson unleashed a high, sideways – almost backward – flop shot with an open-faced wedge. The ball soared, looped right, landed softly a few feet from the pin, and rolled into the cup for an improbable birdie.
