Last Look LIV Golf United Kingdom presented by JCB: Notes, stats, superlatives and more

Lucas Herbert delivered one of the greatest performances in LIV Golf history at JCB Golf & Country Club, shooting 61-66-69-62 to finish at 30-under and win LIV Golf United Kingdom by six shots over Tyrrell Hatton.

Herbert led from start to finish and set the record for the lowest winning score in LIV Golf history. The Australian also set league records with 30 birdies and 32 combined birdies and eagles during the tournament.

The victory was Herbert’s second individual title of the 2026 season after he won LIV Golf Virginia in May. Both victories came in wire-to-wire fashion.

In the team competition, Ripper GC finished at 52-under to defeat Legion XIII by four shots. Cameron Smith finished fourth at 17-under, while Marc Leishman added a T12 finish at 9-under. The victory was Ripper GC’s third team title of the season.

CLUTCH PERFORMANCE

Lucas Herbert entered the final round with a three-shot advantage over Bryson DeChambeau, but with DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton in pursuit, the tournament was far from over.

Herbert responded with a brilliant final-round 10-under 62 to turn the three-shot lead into a six-shot victory. Hatton applied pressure with a 9-under 63, but Herbert never allowed the Englishman to get close enough to make the result uncomfortable.

The final round completed a historic 61-66-69-62 week and secured Herbert’s second individual victory of the season. Closing out a tournament is difficult under any circumstances but shooting 62 while protecting a lead made Herbert’s performance one of the most impressive in LIV Golf history.

Herbert gained an average of +6.48 strokes per round vs the field at LIV UK which is the best tournament strokes gained average in the history of LIV Golf.

ROUND OF THE WEEK

Herbert immediately took control of the tournament with an opening-round 11-under 61.

The 30-year-old made nine birdies and an eagle while playing bogey-free golf, finishing three shots ahead of DeChambeau after Round 1. Herbert opened his round with three consecutive birdies and holed a 47-foot eagle putt on the 10th hole as he threatened to shoot 59.

The 61 was Herbert’s lowest career round relative to par and set the tone for the record-breaking week that followed.

UNDER THE RADAR PERFORMERS

Laurie Canter: Canter gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about with a T7 finish at 13-under. After opening with a 1-over 73, the Englishman responded with rounds of 66-70-66 to charge up the leaderboard.

Canter finished the week with rounds of 73-66-70-66 and led the field in Strokes Gained: Around the Green at +3.25. His final-round 6-under 66 helped him secure his best result of the season at an important time.

Harold Varner III: Varner quietly put together one of his best performances of the season, shooting 66-69-68-72 to finish T7 at 13-under.

Varner entered the final round in contention after playing his first three rounds in 13-under. Although an even-par 72 prevented him from making a final-round charge, the result was an encouraging performance for the OKGC veteran.

Byeong Hun An: An continued to show signs of progress with an 11th-place finish at 11-under. He shot 67-68-70-72 and remained inside the top 11 throughout the tournament.

The Korean Golf Club captain has produced some encouraging iron performances in recent starts, and his consistency at JCB helped him secure one of his best LIV Golf finishes of the season.

STATISTICAL STANDOUTS

Lucas Herbert: Herbert’s statistical profile demonstrated how complete his record-breaking performance was. He ranked second in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee at +5.38, fifth in Strokes Gained: Approach at +8.13 and first in Strokes Gained: Putting at +11.60.

Herbert did not rely on one part of his game to win. He drove the ball well, produced quality iron play and was the best putter in the field. That combination allowed him to separate from a leaderboard that included several players performing at an extremely high level.

Caleb Surratt: Surratt ranked third in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee at +4.27 and seventh in Strokes Gained: Approach at +5.98.

The 22-year-old used his ball-striking to shoot 68-69-70-67 and finish T5 at 14-under. His final-round 5-under 67 helped Legion XIII make a late run at Ripper GC in the team competition.

Tyrrell Hatton: Hatton produced an incredible iron performance, leading the field in Strokes Gained: Approach at +14.66. Cameron Smith ranked second in the category at +11.00, meaning Hatton gained 3.66 more strokes on approach than anyone else in the field.

Hatton shot 66-68-67-63 to finish second at 24-under. In most weeks, a performance of that quality would have resulted in a comfortable victory. Herbert’s historic week was the only thing standing in his way.

VETERAN RESURGENCE

Ian Poulter: Poulter produced his best performance of the season in front of the home crowd, shooting 68-71-70-71 to finish T15 at 8-under.

The 50-year-old opened with a 4-under 68 and remained inside the top 15 throughout the tournament. The performance, which was the Englishman's best of the LIV Golf season, also helped Poulter gain three positions in the individual standings.

Poulter has always embraced the energy of a home crowd, and his performance at JCB demonstrated that he is still capable of playing solid golf against a strong field.

YOUNG GUN SPOTLIGHT

Caleb Surratt: Surratt continues to develop into one of the best young players in the league.

The 22-year-old shot 68-69-70-67 to finish T5 at 14-under, earning his best result of the season. He finished the tournament with a 5-under 67 and helped Legion XIII shoot 19-under in the final round to finish second in the team competition.

Playing alongside Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton has provided Surratt with an opportunity to learn from two of the best players in the world. His performance at JCB was another indication that the experience is continuing to pay off.

WHO’S TRENDING?

Cameron Smith: Smith’s form continues to improve. After finishing T5 at LIV Golf Andalucía, the Ripper GC captain finished fourth at 17-under at JCB.

Smith’s eight consecutive birdies in Round 3 provided the highlight of his week, but the 69-67-66-69 performance was also another sign that his game is moving in the right direction. With Herbert playing the best golf of his career and Smith rediscovering his form, Ripper GC have become increasingly difficult to beat.

Bryson DeChambeau: DeChambeau continued his excellent stretch of golf with a third-place finish at 21-under, shooting 64-67-68-68.

The Crushers GC captain entered the final round three shots behind Herbert and played well enough to finish four shots clear of Smith in fourth place. Despite the strong performance, he still finished nine shots behind Herbert.

DeChambeau remains second in the individual standings with 719.40 points. Jon Rahm continues to lead with 938.44 points, but DeChambeau’s consistency has kept him in position to apply pressure during the closing portion of the season.

Marc Leishman: Leishman shot 68-68-71-72 to finish T12 at 9-under, extending his streak to five consecutive top-15 finishes.

The Australian has quietly become one of the most dependable players in the LIV Golf League. His consistency has provided Ripper GC with reliable scores throughout their recent run of success.

Tyrrell Hatton on Lucas Herbert’s performance:

“Yeah, it's crazy. Yeah, from my side, I'm really happy with how I played today. I knew I needed to get off to a fast start, which I was able to do. Unfortunately for myself, Lucas played incredible golf. Yeah, he's been unbelievable all week.

“As I said yesterday, he's a good frontrunner, and he proved that today by making it impossible for everyone trying to chase him down.”

Bryson DeChambeau on the quality of Herbert’s victory:

“No. I mean, I felt like I played pretty good enough to at least give myself a chance. I thought I played pretty well. 9-under, 10-under in the final round out here, I didn't see that happening. But Tyrrell and Lucas, they're playing in a league of their own right now. I felt like I've been playing pretty good, too. I beat, I guess, fourth place by four shots, and Lucas beat top 5 by 16 shots. I don't think that's ever been done in golf history. It was quite amazing.”

“Yeah, Tyrrell was throwing down the hammer at me there. I think he was 6-under through 9, so it was kind of one of those days where I didn't want to take a backwards step. I knew both him and Bryson would come pretty hard at me. I just didn't want to take a backwards step and give them any freebies. It took a lot more birdies than I thought to not take a backwards step.”

To beat the field that we've got here by six shots, have a 61 and a 62 in the same week with the conditions we were playing in is pretty crazy.
