CHIBA, Japan - Yosuke Asaji is embracing a homecoming this week at International Series Japan, returning not only to familiar ground but with a broader ambition for the future of Japanese golf.

The 32-year-old, who earned his place on LIV Golf League through The International Series pathway last season, believes the time could come for Japan to establish a presence on the League, if players continue to seize their opportunities.

“Of course, I would love to see a Japanese team on LIV Golf, like the Korean team,” said Asaji, who competes on LIV Golf as a Wild Card player. “For that to happen, Japanese players need to keep performing and testing themselves against a global field. I’ll just focus on continuing to play well and doing my part.”

Back competing on the circuit that helped launch his rise, the 2025 Singapore Open champion has opened his weekend at Caledonian Golf Club with steady progress, carding a 2-under 69 on moving day to move to 5 under for the tournament, keeping himself within reach heading into the final round.

While satisfied to stay under par, the Japanese star admitted there was still more to come from his performance.

“I’m happy to finish under par, but making three bogeys was a bit disappointing,” he said. “There were a lot of positives, but I feel like I could have done better.”

A key strength this week has been his consistency off the tee, allowing him to stay patient and create chances.

“I was driving the ball really well today, so I knew if I kept that going, I’d continue to give myself birdie opportunities,” he added. “That helped me stay positive.”

Having climbed through The International Series Rankings to secure his LIV Golf opportunity, Asaji is a firm advocate for the pathway’s impact.

“The International Series gives a fair chance to all players to progress,” he said. “If you perform well, you can earn your way onto LIV Golf. It’s a real opportunity.”

Now gaining experience at the highest level at LIV Golf, he is embracing the unique atmosphere that comes with it.

“Every event is exciting because it’s a new experience,” he said. “In Adelaide, the atmosphere was incredible, the music, the fans, I couldn’t even hear the sound of my shot. That was a really fun moment.”

With upcoming events including a trip to Club de Golf Chapultepec for LIV Golf Mexico City, Asaji is eager to continue building momentum.

“I’m looking forward to all the coming events,” he said. “In Mexico, there’s that famous bunker shot Tiger Woods played at Club de Golf Chapultepec back in 2019, I’d love to see the hole in person and maybe try it myself.”
