Team Championship Format

The weekend is broken down into three stages:

• Friday’s quarter-finals, where the 12 teams go head-to-head in six matches.

• Saturday’s semi-finals, where the six quarter-final winners compete for three final slots.

• Sunday’s final, where the three teams that have made it this far compete for the title.

The Team Championship combines the best of golf’s favorite formats: 

• The nerve-shredding match-play, where teams go head-to-head against one another, and every hole is win or lose.

• The classic strokeplay, where each team is trying to build its own score and the one with the lowest final total wins.

For the play-in, quarter-finals and semi-finals, its team vs team match-play. Each tie consists of three matches: 2 1-vs-1 matches (singles)  and 1 2 vs 2 match (foursomes).

Then, on Championship Sunday, we go back to strokeplay, so every player’s score counts on every single hole.

Although the Team Championship is a winner-takes-all event, we also want to reward those teams that have performed well throughout the season. So, for this final event, we reward these top-performing teams with seedings, which carry two massive advantages: they get to choose their opponents, and they can wait until their opponents have submitted their match-play combinations before submitting their own.

In other words, the top-ranked teams can identify chinks in their opponents’ armor. For example, the captain might see that their opponent has put a rookie into one of the singles matches, and choose to play against them to create a potential mis-match.

Unlike previous versions of the Team Championship, every one of the 12 teams that starts the weekend will finish it too.

The teams that lose the eliminator matches continue to play one another. There’s crucial prize money at stake, which the teams can invest into their playing rosters for the 2026 season.

And not only that: the fans get to see all their favorite players all weekend. Whether you’re following DeChambeau, Rahm, Johnson or any other player, you know they’ll be playing when your’e watching.
