Team Championship Format

The weekend is broken down into three stages:

• Friday’s quarter-finals, where the 12 teams go head-to-head in six matches.

• Saturday’s semi-finals, where the six quarter-final winners compete for three final slots.

• Sunday’s final, where the three teams that have made it this far compete for the Championship.

The Team Championship combines the best of golf’s favorite formats: 

• Match-play, where teams go head-to-head and every hole is win or lose.

• Strokeplay, where each team builds its own score and the one with the lowest final total wins.

For the play-in, quarter-finals and semi-finals, its match-play. Each tie consists of three matches: two singles duels, one 2-vs-2 (foursomes) contest. Two out of three wins gets you through.

On Sunday, it's strokeplay. Every player’s score counts on every single hole, and we won't know the winner until all 18 are done.

Although the Team Championship is winner-takes-all, we want to reward those teams that have shone throughout the season. So we reward these top-performing teams with seedings in both the quarter and semi-finals. This means they can:

• Choose their opponents, and identify the team they think they've got the edge on.

• Wait until their opponents have submitted their match-play combos before submitting their own.

• Use this intel to stack their top players in the crucial matches, or put their more experienced guys against younger opponents.

Unlike previous versions of the Team Championship, every one of the 12 teams that starts the weekend will finish it too. And this is great news for our fans.

The teams that lose the eliminators continue to play for rankings and prize money. So whether you're buying a ticket or tuning in, you know your favorite guys will be playing when you're watching.
