About the Course

Maridoe Golf Club, Dallas

When you think of Texas, you automatically think big, right? The food, the parties, the vast plains and endless fields… everything is on a different scale here. And at Maridoe Golf Club on the outskirts of Dallas, you’ll find golf in XXL.

Built over 200 acres of prairie land, the course tops out at over 7,800 yards. Billionaire owner Albert Huddleston is not afraid to challenge golfing tradition (he's even built a croquet court on the property) so he's a perfect fit for us.

The Maridoe hosted LIV Golf in 2024 and this time we're coming right in the peak of the season. This sun-drenched Texan showdown could play a crucial role in determining the destiny of the championships, so let's look at what the players can expect.

What happened before we got here?

The club’s history actually stretches back all the way to the 1880s, when Dallas was still a small railroad town. The old Colombian club moved to the current site in the 1950s, but folded in 2008, paving the way for owner Albert Huddleston to take over and plot an overhaul.

In redesigning the club, Huddleston insisted on the best. He engaged revered architect Steve Smyers, whose portfolio includes Wolf Run, Old Memorial and Isleworth among a glittering array of courses.

Together, Huddleston and Smyers have created an extraordinary theater on the plains, from the “valley of death” on the bunkerless 10th to the 480-yard 18th, as fiercely guarded as an old frontier fort. It’s all arranged around a beautiful central lake, which is sure to leave fans in rapture.

How will it play?

Smyers says this is a course that "lays down the gauntlet" and he’s not kidding. The sheer length of the course - particularly the endless par-4s - means you gotta be long off the tee, and scrambling is going to be crucial.

That said, the course is honest. There aren’t as many sneaky traps here as there at, say, the Serapong or Valderrama. Stay consistent and accurate, and you’ve got a great chance of doing well.

Who will it favor?

This is Bryson’s home game, and you’ve gotta think he’ll (pardon the pun) crush it here. The longer the course, the more it should play into the big man’s hands.

But nothing is guaranteed. Last time we came to the Maridoe, Bryson suffered one of his rare off-days, while Ripper GC, who are more famous for their putting than their driving, claimed the glory.

How can I be there?

Tickets are on sale now, and there are all kinds of options to choose from, including cocktails and culinary trails on 18 and the famous Birdie Shack on 9. With DJs during the day and concerts after play, practically every hole is going to feel like a Party Hole. Find your vantage-point here.
