ABOUT THE COURSE
Bayou Oaks at City Park is one of the premier public golf venues in the American South, set within the historic grounds of New Orleans’ iconic City Park. Blending championship-level design with the unmistakable character of Louisiana’s natural landscape, the South Course at Bayou Oaks delivers a compelling test that rewards strategy, creativity, and shot-making from tee to green.
The South Course was comprehensively redesigned and reopened in 2017 by renowned architects Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead, transforming the layout into a modern championship venue while preserving the parkland character that has defined golf at City Park for more than a century. Measuring over 7,300 yards from the back tees and playing to a par of 72, the course features generous fairways bordered by towering live oaks, carefully contoured greens, and a network of bunkers and water hazards that come into play throughout the round.
Water is a constant strategic presence across the layout, influencing both driving zones and approach shots, while the wide corridors off the tee encourage aggressive play without removing the need for precision. Subtle elevation changes and thoughtfully designed green complexes place a premium on positioning, particularly on approach shots where angles and spin control can determine scoring opportunities.
Beyond its physical challenge, Bayou Oaks reflects the rich sporting heritage of New Orleans. Golf has been played at City Park since the early 1900s, making it one of the oldest golf sites in the United States. The modern South Course stands as a bridge between that history and the future of elite competition, offering a venue capable of hosting the world’s best players while remaining accessible to the local community.
With its blend of championship pedigree, strategic design, and unmistakable Southern atmosphere, Bayou Oaks at City Park provides a distinctive stage for top-level golf — one that balances bold shot-making with thoughtful course management in the heart of New Orleans.
