Bolingbrook Golf Club, Chicago

The world’s best golfers, playing a public course. LIV Golf exists to bring golf closer to the people who follow it, and in Chicago, we’ve made one of our boldest statements yet.

We’re bringing DeChambeau, Mickelson and all those other Major champions back to Bolingbrook Golf Club, a municipal course which is owned by the people and open to the public. And this isn’t just any muni: it’s one of the toughest public tracks you’ll find anywhere in the U.S., an arena which will test anyone - no matter their golfing pedigree.

This is another exciting chapter for golf, making our game more inclusive, more accessible and more universal. Now, let’s take a look at the Bolingbrook and why we’ve made this one of our flagship venues.

What happened before we got here?

Located just an hour outside Chicago in one of the great city’s most beautiful suburbs, the club was the vision of Roger Claar, the former Mayor of Bolingbrook, who wanted to create a new focal point for his community and draw amateur players from across the Chicagoland area.

The course is elite by any measure, with designer Arthur Hills creating signatures everywhere: the island green par-3, the 600-yard par 5, and seven (yep, seven!) lakes that create shimmering hazards all over the property. But elitist? Definitely not.

Green fees are extremely affordable when you consider the quality of the terrain, and it offers five sets of tees, so players of all abilities can find the right level of tough.

Bolingbrook opened in 2002 and immediately earned rave reviews, being named one of Golf Magazine’s ‘Top 10 You Can Play.’ And the gold has kept coming ever since: in 2024, it was named one of the top 50 public courses in the company by the Golf Range Association of America.

How will it play?

This is a real thinker’s course. All those water hazards mean risk-reward dilemmas on lots of holes, and the track is relatively short by championship standards, topping out at 7,104 yards from the pros’ tees.

If you love your strategic golf, with players plotting their way around the course rather than simply gripping and ripping, this is the kind of course that’s built for you.

Who will it favor?

Well, let’s look back to our debut visit last year for clues.

Jon Rahm and Joaco Niemann, the season’s two standout players, took it right down to 18, while other strong performers included Sergio García, Anirban Lahiri and Lucas Herbert. None of these guys is known as a ‘full send’ specialist; they’re all thinking golfers, who can maximize their power with subtle shot selection and clever calculations.

Will it be similar this time? All the evidence suggests yes, although the heat of Chicago in August could have a key role to play.

What have they said about Bolingbrook Golf Club?

“This golf course played close to a major championship test. There were some shots out there that I'm like, wow, this is playing exactly like a jumper in the U.S. Open would right now.” Bryson DeChambeau.

How can I be there?

If you were one of the thousands who packed out Bolingbrook for our debut last year, you’ll find all those VIP experiences back again: glitz and glam on 18, or the energy of the Party Hole. Plus, we’ve got a boosted grounds ticket that gives your own shaded chill-out zone for when the heat cranks up (not to mention your own exclusive, elevated views).
